David Brown's petition, 1801 Mar. 23, to Thomas Jefferson for a commutation of a $400 fine imposed as part of a sentence for seditious writing, with certification, 1779 June 1. Two pardons, one for David Brown, 1801 Mar. 12, and one for James Thomson Callender of Virginia, 1801 Mar. 16 (pardoning his conviction of libel), both issued by Thomas Jefferson, signed by Levi Lincoln acting Secretary of State.
